What’s In A Name?

Welcome February 2023! As I look back over the past six years, I think of why we chose My Neighbor’s Voice as our name. All great faith traditions have the Great Commandment, “Love your neighbor as yourself” in their writings. As Victoria and I pondered what we wanted our effort to look like, this commandment kept resurfacing in our minds. We wanted to convey that our neighbors are important and that listening to the thoughts, opinions, and stories of our neighbors are what makes us stronger as a community.

Over the last six years, we have heard some amazing stories that have brought both laughter and tears, have made us listen to ourselves as well as others, and have brought many new opportunities to reflect on what is most important in our community. Most importantly, we have learned to love our neighbors more deeply because we have listened.

Our tagline is “Listening, Loving, Acting Together.” We invite you to join us in this February “Month of Love” to listen to your neighbor. There are multiple ways to do this with MNV – from Café Listening to asking your neighbor over for a cup of coffee or tea and a deck of our MNV Listening Cards. We are always here to help you facilitate listening to your own neighbor’s voice with grace and generosity. This is a wonderful journey that you are invited to embark on. Let us know if you have any questions as you start along your way!
